This year, from June 12 to 15, the Fromago fair is held in Zamora, making it a perfect opportunity to discover the charms of this city. Here are five places you can’t miss during your stay in Zamora, in addition to enjoying the fair.
What to see in Zamora in Fromago 2024
1. The Cathedral of Zamora and its Museum
The Cathedral of Zamora, built in the 12th century, is a jewel of Spanish Romanesque architecture. Its dome, known as the “Cimborrio”, is a masterpiece of medieval architecture. The interior houses the Cathedral Museum, where you can admire an impressive collection of Flemish tapestries, sculptures and sacred art.
Tip: Do not miss the panoramic view from the viewpoint of the cathedral, from where you can see the old town of Zamora and the Duero River.
2. Zamora Castle
Situated atop a hill, Zamora Castle offers spectacular views of the city and its surroundings. Although in ruins, the castle maintains its imposing presence and a visit is a unique experience. Stroll along its walls and discover the history of the battles and sieges that took place here.
Tip: Visit the castle at sunset to enjoy a breathtaking view of the sun setting over the Douro.
3. The Stone Bridge
The Puente de Piedra, also known as Puente Viejo, is one of the most emblematic structures you have to see in Zamora. Built in the 12th century, this medieval bridge crosses the Duero River and offers a picturesque view of the city. It is a perfect place to take a relaxing stroll and take stunning photos.
Recommendation: Cross the bridge and continue walking along the Duero riverbank to enjoy the beautiful natural scenery.
4. The Plaza Mayor
Zamora’s Plaza Mayor is the heart of the city. Surrounded by historic buildings and cozy cafes, it is an ideal place to sit and enjoy the local atmosphere. The church of San Juan de Puerta Nueva, with its distinctive rose window, is located in this square and is a must-see.
