Yesterday, a new edition of Global Cheese Awards was celebrated, and “Quesería La Antigua de Fuentesaúco” received two new medals. A silver medal for the Aged La Antigua Summum Sheep Cheese as best Spanish Cheese, and a bronze medal for their last innovation, the Lactose-Free Soft La Antigua Sheep Cheese as best cheese made with 100% of sheep milk.
Since 1861, the Global Cheese Awards are celebrated. In the cheese sector, is one of the three most important events.
Results are announced just after the deliberation during a gala dinner.Furthermore, visitors enjoyed an exbihition of the participant cheeses. They had the chance to taste it.
Aged La Antigua Summum Sheep Cheese
It is not the first time for La Antigua sheep cheeses. Indeed, they have received lots of medals since 2012. The first one was a silver medal for its DOP Zamorano Aged Vellón de Fuentesaúco as Best Spanish Cheese.
In 2013, the semi maturated sheep cheese won the bronze medal in the category of Best Spanish Cheese and the Aged Cheese won the silver medal in the same category. In the category Cheese made with 100% of sheep milk, the DOP Zamorano Aged Vellón de Fuentesaúco won the gold medal. And finally, the creamy “Caprichos de La Pastora” won the gold medal in the category of Spreadable Cheese.
In this 2015 the medals they are special for us, because these cheeses also have their story … start with the youngest.
Lactose-Free Soft La Antigua Sheep Cheese
The Lactose-Free Soft La Antigua Sheep Cheese emerges through the barriers imposed by the Russian market for European exports. As you know, La Antigua de Fuentesaúco has been working, traveling and investing in this market for several years. When the company was well-established, the market locked. The only opportunity offered by Russian market was to export products lactose-free. Quesería La Antigua has decided to produce a soft cheese lactose free and low in salt. This cheese is made with pasteurized milk which can be eated after 10-15 days.
Aged La Antigua Summum Sheep Cheese
In the case of its Aged La Antigua Summum Sheep Cheese, history is happier, this cheese is born from the incorporation of this cheese factory to the Premium Area of the Alimentaria fair held every two years in Barcelona. Only 11 Spanish companies have this recognition, and in the dairy sector “La Antigua” is the only present in Alimentaria Premium.
“Quesería La Antigua” wanted to surprise and presented the Aged La Antigua Summum Sheep Cheese: a Cheese of 24 months of maturation totally controlled and with a unique and distinctive Cheese Packaging: El Aged La Antigua Summum Sheep Cheese 2012 and the Aged La Antigua Summum Sheep Cheese 2014.
