This Saturday the 4th we are going on a Rally!!! We leave from Madrid to participate in the PandaRaid: compound name that comes from Raid (to travel a long distance) and Panda (gathering of people to have fun).
This is an amateur long-distance and endurance rally held annually in March, where more than a hundred teams decide to defy the supreme law of common sense and embark on an “old school” adventure aboard an old Panda (or also Marbella). It takes place in Morocco over a 7-stage route, which in some cases tests the physical and mental capacities of the teams. The important thing is not the time or the speed, overcoming Panda Raid means above all to reach the finish line.
And why did we decide to sign up?
This adventure began when a group of friends decided to pay the best tribute that can be paid to a friend. Piqui, in love with cars, and especially the Panda, left us about a year ago. Family of some of the members of GAG, we couldn’t say no to this project! And it is with this participation of “El Equipiqui” we are raising funds to continue to help the Valencian Community Cystic Fibrosis Association where every day they help struggling people like Piqui and his family.
There is nothing so close that transports us to such a different place. Each stage will be different in difficulty, terrain and mileage to be completed. The route is mainly focused on the south of Morocco and is mostly composed of tracks, sandy areas and 360º of desert. It should be noted that Panda Raid takes a week away from the mechanisms of technology. The compass, an instrument invented in the 9th century, the Roadbook provided by the organization and the teams’ intuition will be the only tools they will be able to use during the stages. These were the beginnings of the first expeditions and the real concept of raids.
