Last October 26th we celebrated GAG-Quesería la Antigua together with our friends from Hergaher, Mares Virtuales and Los Álamos Laboratorio Gastronómico the
IV Congreso Cocina con #QuesoyHumor #VenteaFreirMorcillas (IV Cooking Congress with #QuesoyHumor #VenteaFreirMorcillas)
in Peñaranda. The perfect excuse to get together all our friends, enjoy a good wine and tapas and thank some of them with some awards for their passion and commitment to their work.
The gala was presented and directed by Fran Pereawe were able to learn how to elaborate the best tapas of cheese y farinato of the hand of several of the best chefs of our country, Quique Matilla made us understand the meaning of #QuesoyHumor making us laugh out loud; and finally came the most awaited and exciting moment of the night…. The awards ceremony. One of those moments that give you goose bumps when you watch the videos dedicated to the award winners, or when you see them get emotional, or when you look into their eyes full of gratitude…
The first award presented during the evening was the Traditional Shepherd award to Benjamín Herrero, for a lifetime of being a shepherd, specifically since he was 12 years old. We love this award, because we believe it is very important to highlight the value of this type of work, which is being lost little by little, but from which many families still live.

After this award came that of Ambassador of Farinato, which was awarded to the School of Hotel Management of Santa Marta de Tormes, for his commitment and time dedicated to promoting farinato in the kitchen. His work is fundamental because farinato is a very typical product of Salamanca’s gastronomy and thanks to people like him it is promoted and made known.

The third prize, New Shepherds, was awarded to the company Xesmogal S.L. for their management of the farm they created two years ago, breeding and caring for the sheep with the latest technologies. Fewer and fewer people are daring to start a pasture-based business, and for that we must applaud these courageous people.

And finally, the award we were most excited about this year, the Commitment Award, because if there is something we value above all else in people, it is their commitment. Last year the bar was set very high with this award, it was given to the entire #EquipolaAntigua but this year the award went to Florencio Sanchidrián, for a life dedicated to taking a product as Spanish as Iberian ham around the world and also for his constant support of the cheese cutters of Antigua.

We just wanted to give our heartfelt thanks to all the people who made the IV Congreso Cocina con Queso y Humor possible and to the winners of the prizes for opening their hearts to us and showing us their desire to improve day by day.
See you at the V Congress!
